Alexandr Wang, Meta’s AI director, has a message for all 13-year-olds: “You should spend all of your time vibe-coding”

Called the Bill Gates of AI, and a millionaire at 24 thanks to his philosophy, the young prodigy shares his vision of the world.

There are phrases that define a generation, and this one from Alexandr Wang, director of artificial intelligence at Meta, aims to be one of them: “If you are 13 years old, you should spend all of your time vibe-coding.” It’s not just technological hype. It’s a warning. The artificial intelligence train waits for no one.

Wang is clear: we are in “today’s Bill Gates moment,” a turning point that will decide who will be able to take advantage of (and master) the tools that will shape the next global economy. And he says this with good reason. At the age of 28, Wang founded Scale AI, a key company in AI model training, now valued at over $7 billion. Meta acquired almost half of it, and since then Wang has been leading the development of artificial intelligence at the company with a very clear idea: adapting is not optional, it is mandatory.

“We are at an incredible turning point,” he says. For Wang, mastery of AI will be to the 21st century what PC skills were to the 1990s. Younger generations, who are growing up with technology as a natural extension of their thinking, have an advantage. If you just happen to spend 10,000 hours playing with the tools and figure out how to use them better than other people, that’s a huge advantage,” he says.

That vibe coding he talks about (an intuitive, constant form of learning based on practice with AI assistants and workflows) sums up his vision of the future: it’s not enough to know about technology, you have to live with it. While many adults are still trying to understand what a generative model is, there are teenagers who are already programming, creating, and playing with them. Without knowing it, they are building the foundations of their digital leadership.

Wang sees in this generation the same spark that ignited figures such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg: that of those who were there from the beginning, fearlessly exploring a fledgling tool. The difference is that now everything moves faster. What used to take a decade to change now happens in months.

That’s why he insists: “That’s how you should live your life.” By thoroughly learning the tools that are redefining the world. The message sounds simple, but it contains a powerful logic. In a future where artificial intelligence will not be a specialty, but the common language of all trades, the real advantage will lie with those who have started speaking it before others.
