Alexandra Daddario on her nude scenes: “it doesn’t bother me to be nude on screen”
The well-known actress from series such as True Detective and The White Lotus says she never considered herself sexy and always tried to hide her body.
Alexandra Daddario, the well-known actress from series such as ‘True Detective’ and ‘The White Lotus’ and films such as ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D,’ ‘San Andreas,’ and ‘Baywatch,’ has opened up about her nude scenes on screen and the influence they have had on her career. The 39-year-old actress, who currently stars in the supernatural horror thriller series 'Mayfair Witches,' has acknowledged that getting naked in front of the cameras “was never about me,” adding that she never considered herself a sexy girl and always tried to hide her body rather than show it off.
Alexandra Daddario has never considered herself a “sexy girl”
According to the actress, she has never sought out roles that exploit her image as a sexy girl, either on the small or big screen: “It was about the performance. I wasn’t really that aware of what I looked like, other than feeling uncomfortable when men whistled at me on the street. I never thought of myself as sexy. I spent more time hiding my body than showing it,” the actress told Social Life magazine (via People).
The ‘Baywatch’ actress adds: “I didn’t do the nude scenes because I felt bold or confident. Those scenes were both hard and vulnerable... but that’s also what made it a challenge.” For her role in the film adaptation of the popular series Baywatch, she received the 2017 Golden Schmoes Award for Best Physique in a Movie, for which she was also nominated two years earlier for ‘San Andreas.’
Alexandra Daddario describes these types of scenes as “transformative” and adds that for her, the important thing is “to be honest with the role.” She also downplays the significance of these types of scenes in film and television: “I think other people think about it more than I do.” The fact is that nudity on screen must serve a purpose: “Being naked is part of human nature,” says Daddario.
“If it serves the role, is a great part, and a project I care about then no, it doesn’t bother me to be nude on screen as I get older.” Regarding her role in ‘Mayfair Witches,’ “The darkness doesn’t scare me. The sexuality doesn’t scare me. That’s all part of being human,” she explains.
“I actually think Rowan can get even naughtier. She’s struggling with power in a world that’s completely unhinged, and that’s what makes her so fascinating,” she concludes about her role in the AMC series.
