Update:

Reading the script before accepting a role is standard practice in Hollywood, but with ‘The Odyssey,’ things went a little differently. Everyone except Robert Pattinson decided to accept the offer before reading the script, as the actor himself explains in an interview with GQ:

I was like, ‘Yeah, can’t wait to read it.’ He’s like, ‘You want to read it? Everyone else just said yes.’ ”

Holland Asked Sony to Postpone ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

When Christopher Nolan offered Tom Holland the role of Telemachus in ‘The Odyssey,’ he couldn’t accept it right away. The actor had agreed to reprise his role as Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ In the same interview with GQ, the actor explained that he had to have “a very uncomfortable conversation” with Sony Pictures to delay filming of the new Spidey movie.

“So I said to Chris, like, ‘Look, I want to do this movie, but if I’m going to do it, I’m going to have to call Sony and have a very uncomfortable conversation,’” He then met with Tom Rothman, the head of Sony Pictures, to try to get the studio to go along with it. Against all odds, Rothman accepted Holland’s proposal.

“I think one of the reasons why Sony were happy to move is because Chris has that reputation.” He’s referring to the fact that his movies aren’t delayed “five months over”; nor would it have meant Sony “going to lose Tom for two years.”
