This Monday, October 20, millions of users around the world have been affected by a global outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud infrastructure on which platforms, video games, and services like Fortnite, Roblox, Snapchat, Duolingo, and Zoom depend. The issue, detected early in the morning, has left many websites and online services in several countries.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers are experiencing issues today, Monday, October 20, 2025: here are the affected services

On the morning of Monday, October 20, 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) suffered a global outage affecting millions of users and businesses around the world. According to reports from websites like DownDetector, the issues began around 8:40 AM (Central European Time), with widespread disruptions in connections to services hosted on Amazon’s cloud.

AWS’s own support page confirms an “increase in error rates and latencies” across several services, particularly in the US-EAST-1 region — located in the eastern United States and one of the most widely used by major digital platforms. Jeff Bezos’s company states that its technical teams are already working to restore service as quickly as possible, although no estimated timeline for full recovery has been provided yet.

Among the most affected platforms are Fortnite, the Epic Games Store, Roblox, Clash Royale, Snapchat, Duolingo, Zoom, and Canva, as well as Amazon’s own services such as Alexa, Prime Video, and its online store. Banking institutions and payment platforms like BBVA, CaixaBank, Santander, and VISA have also been impacted. In Europe, some services continue to operate partially, but in regions of the United States and Latin America, access remains down or is experiencing severe connectivity issues.

There’s no solution on the user’s end — all you can do is wait

The Amazon Web Services outage directly affects the cloud infrastructure used by thousands of companies and applications. This means that the errors are not related to the user’s device, connection, or login credentials, but rather to Amazon’s central servers — so users can’t do anything to fix the problem. Common actions typically taken in similar situations, such as restarting the router, computer, or phone, will have no effect as long as the issue persists.

Since AWS is the system that supports many of the world’s most popular digital services —from social networks to online video games— when it suffers an outage like the one this Monday, the applications that depend on its infrastructure simply stop working or display connection errors. This happens even if the companies behind those services aren’t directly at fault, meaning they’re essentially “tied” to this cloud infrastructure and its ability to keep running normally.

For now, the only option is to wait for Amazon to restore its servers and announce the full recovery of the affected services, making this a developing story. All signs point to this being a temporary issue, and most platforms —including Fortnite and Roblox— are expected to return to normal in the coming hours.
