An Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake exists, but got delayed alongside Shadows

Reports have surfaced about a playable build of an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, although it may have been affected by the Shadows delay.

Ubisoft is in a delicate moment. The company’s shares have plummeted and leaks suggest that CEO Yves Guillemot is considering selling the company to Tencent. The poor results of Star Wars Outlaws and the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows until February 2025 have worsened the crisis. However, the company has drawn up a plan around the Assassins saga, their most powerful intellectual property. One unannounced project in their cards that has just been unveiled through leaks is a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, a title that Insider Gaming has already been able to see.

According to Tom Henderson, a source who has asked not to be identified has leaked documentation and even gameplay that shows that the revamped version works under the improved version of the Anvil graphics engine, the technology used by all modern Assassin’s Creed games. The documentation indicates that development is going smoothly and that the launch date was scheduled for November 2025. Known internally as Obsidian, it is more than likely that the date has been altered after the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The roadmap for all Assassin’s Creed has changed

Marc-Alexis Côté, head of the franchise, addressed Ubisoft employees through an internal email to confirm that the Assassin’s Creed roadmap has been altered, so surely all upcoming projects will change their dates. In any case, except for Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, Ubisoft has not revealed any of its other future titles. Leaks indicate that Invictus could be a kind of fall guys-style multiplayer concept starring some of the series’ most iconic characters.

In Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Black, players step into the shoes of Edward Kenway, a pirate who sets out to sea to get hold of the ocean’s greatest treasures. During his journey through water and land, he joins the Order of Assassins and sees himself involved in their eternal war with the Templars, all the while encountering some of the most dreaded Pirates of the era.
