An Elden Ring movie could be closer to reality than we thought, according to Hidetaka Miyazaki
FromSoftware’s Miyazaki surprised fans with statements that assure an Elden Ring movie is possible, even with several conditions attached to it.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, CEO of FromSoftware and creative lead behind the rise of the “souls-like” genre, gave a surprise through recent statements in an interview. According to him, he believes that there is “interest” an Elden Ring movie, but in order to carry out the project they would need the support of some major film production company because FromSoftware has neither the knowledge nor the means to make this idea a reality.
An Elden Ring movie is possible but FromSoftware would need the support of a major film studio according to Miyazaki
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Miyazaki said:”I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example. But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium.”
“So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play. We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure”
These statements are far from a definitive announcement, but they do represent a first step towards a hypothetical Elden Ring movie for now. However, it’s important to understand that, at least at the time of publication for this article, no such project has been confirmed or is underway.
What is Elden Ring about?
Elden Ring is an action role-playing video game released in 2022 available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It was developed by FromSoftware and distributed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. In this title, you delve into the Lands Between, a dark fantasy continent ruled by demigods that was devastated when Queen Marika the Undying destroyed the titular Elden Ring, plunging the world into war as lords fought over its scraps. As a Tarnished, you must explore these mysterious lands and defeat the demigods who hold the Great Runes, which are fragments of the Elden Ring, with which you can effectively decide the fate of the world.
One of its most striking aspects is the fact that famous author George R. R. Martin, the creator of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’/’Game of Thrones’, is the one who provided FromSoftware with the background story and world-building for the Lands Between and its characters, elevating the unorthodox storytelling of previous FromSoftware titles to heights unexpected.
Since its launch, Elden Ring received outstanding marks, with scores around 95/100 on Metacritic in all its versions. It has also been a sales success, having sold 25 million units as of June 2024, becoming one of the best-selling games of all time. Likewise, in June 2024, Shadow of the Erdtree, its first and only expansion, was released, which has also been praised with outstanding scores all over the world.
