Ana de Armas calls ‘Ballerina’ a dangerous and sexy John Wick spin-off as she teases a trailer soon
Ana de Armas revealed a trailer for ‘Ballerina’ is close to releasing, while gushing about the production.
‘Ballerina’, the highly awaited ‘John Wick’ spin-off starring Ana de Armas, is expected to hit theaters around the world in 2025. And now the actress has shared new information about the project. Specifically, she calmed fans worried about the status of the project after it was announced that they needed to do reshoots, stating that it will be very faithful to the franchise, and also revealing that there will be an official trailer coming soon.
De Armas recently spoke with Collider, where she tried to calm the waters regarding the status of ‘Ballerina’. “All we did in those reshoots had to be there. We got amazing footage. It’s really spectacular. A trailer is coming out soon , I’ve been told. I saw it, and it’s beautiful. I’m very proud of it. It’s really exciting. It’s dangerous, it’s sexy, it’s very John Wick . I think people are going to be surprised. I’m biased. Of course, I like the movie, but I think it’s really cool. It’s going to be amazing.”
The film suffered a delay of almost exactly one year; Its original release date was June 7, 2024, but the film needed to shoot additional scenes in February of this year, and will now be released on June 6, 2025. Normally, when a movie needs to do reshoots, it tends to be taken as an indication that something has gone wrong in the project: the stipulated agenda has not been met, or the first closed-door viewings have generated negative reactions. Nevertheless, the actress insists that this new footage results in a higher final quality of the film and claims to be happy with the result.
‘Ballerina’ will tell the story of a young ballet dancer seeking to avenge the death of her family. She’s a member of the Russian Roma, the criminal organization of Russian origin to which John Wick is also linked. Ana de Armas stars in this film as Rooney, but will be accompanied by many well-known faces from the saga like John Wick himself (Keanu Reeves), the Director (Anjelica Huston), Charon (Lance Reddick), and Winston (Ian McShane).
Not many more details have been revealed about its plot, but it is known that at a chronological level, the film takes place between the third and fourth installments. As such, it will serve to explain and expand what happened between both films.
