Anthony Starr (Homelander) believes ‘The Boys’ is the cure for Marvel and DC’s superhero fatigue

One of the main stars of Prime Video’s ‘The Boys’ is convinced that the show is a great alternative to traditional superhero movies.

The Boys’, the successful adaptation in the form of television series of the homonymous comics by Garth Ennis, has become a great alternative to the more traditional superhero cinema, which has been under the yoke of a supposed fatigue that’s affected the general public. And such a statement comes from a voice as authoritative as that of actor Antony Starr, who plays the implacable Homelander in the most violent and brutal superhero universe of Prime Video’s ‘The Boys’. This was stated in a recent interview, where he remarked that his show is “the antidote” to superhero fatigue, a genre dominated for years by Marvel and DC.

Homelander saves the world?

As part of an interview in Late Night with Seth Meyers, Starr assured that the Prime Video series is a breath of fresh air in the field of superheroes with plots and situations radically different from what the general public is used to, generally aimed at a younger and family audience. ‘The Boys’ is quite the opposite:

“I’ve heard this phrase thrown around a lot, ‘superhero fatigue.’ And I think we are the antidote to that, because our universe is completely 180. The good guys are the bad guys. And the bad guys are the good guys. Right?” Explained Starr about the show, of course admitting that his own character is absolutely not a true hero. “Sorry, all the Homelander fanboys that thought he was the good guy. Uh, the giveaway was when he killed a guy on a plane. Episode one, season one.”

As happens with the original ‘The Boys’ comic, its plots and situations place superheroes in a very different framework from what large companies like Marvel or DC are used to, with the so-called Supes being used by the large corporations and governments to dominate society and direct it as they wish, all through the brutality and the starkest violence through superhuman powers.

With the fourth season about to end, ‘The Boys’ will conclude in 2025 or 2026 with his fifth and last season.
