Aragorn appears in profile in a scene from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ for a good reason: “All I could do”
Peter Jackson had to fix an unexpected problem.

Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn in ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ had an accident while enjoying the weekend with other actors from the production. Faced with this situation, Peter Jackson was forced to use his imagination to ensure that the injury was not visible on screen. The filmmaker revealed this in a video released to mark the re-release of the trilogy.
According to Jackson, the actor had an accident while surfing with his friends. As a result, Mortensen showed up on set with a black and swollen eye. The director then decided to shoot one of the scenes in the Mines of Moria in a particular way: he filmed the actor only from his good side, thus hiding his injury.

Peter Jackson’s solution
“The thing with these movies, of course, is we shot all three of them at the same time and then in a mixed-up kind of way,” Jackson said. “So in the Mines of Moria scene, too, the other thing I remember, we all show up to shoot that scene. “And Viggo had been out with the Hobbits during the weekend, and he’d been surfing, and he had sustained an injury surfing, like the board had flipped in the air and whacked him in the face.“ His eye was swollen shut, so he apologized: ”‘Oh, God,’“ Jackson replied. ”So you’ll see that all I could do is to shoot him from the side.”
