Team ASOBI’s new PS5 game is one of the favorites for GOTY 2024.

ASTRO BOT challenges Super Mario: These are the best 3D platform games ever according to Metacritic

The release of ASTRO BOT on PS5 was an event for PlayStation, as it is not only the highest-rated title of 2024 ahead of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but also one of the most acclaimed platformers of all time. So much so, that Team ASOBI’s game is ahead of only Mario in Metacritic’s ranking of the best 3D platformers of all time.

The Best 3D Platformers of All Time

To no one’s surprise, the top of the list wears a cap and a mustache. It is, of course, Super Mario, which, according to Metacritic, occupies several positions in the ranking of the best 3D platformers of all time.

  • Super Mario Galaxy – 97
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 97
  • Super Mario Odyssey – 97
  • ASTRO BOT – 94
  • Super Mario Sunshine – 94
  • Super Mario 3D World – 93
  • Banjo-Kazooie – 92
  • Spyro: Year of the Dragon – 91
  • Crash Bandicoot: Warped – 91
  • Donkey Kong 64 – 90
  • Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy – 90

As you can see, there are some very noticeable absences, as in the case of what many consider to be one of the best games in history: Super Mario 64. Other highly acclaimed games like Banjo-Tooie are also missing, as well as most releases of sagas like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. The reason for this is that in the 90′s Metacritic did not have enough analysis to calculate the average of some games and therefore they did not appear in the ranking.

The opinion of ASTRO BOT on MeriStation

ASTRO BOT is one of the must-have titles on PlayStation 5 this year. In this link you can read the opinion of our good friend Vladimir Arteaga, who mentions that the title is “definitely one of the best platform titles of the PS5 and even of this generation, as it takes the experience beyond the screen thanks to the technical marvel of DualSense.
