Avatar 3: James Cameron shares the release window for the series’ next sequel

James Cameron’s next Avatar film, which will explore the fire tribes of the Na’vi, has just entered a long period of post-production that’ll last for at least 2 years.

Update:

More than ten years passed between the release of ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which hit theaters in 2022. James Cameron’s ambitious sequel has wasted no time and has benefited from technological advances to offer an unparalleled visual spectacle. The director of ‘Aliens’ and ‘Titanic’ is actively working on ‘Avatar 3′, a film about which hardly anything is known, not even its final title, but which has already revealed its release window: Christmas 2025.

James Cameron himself did so in a statement to TV New Zealand (via Deadline): “We’re into a very hectic two years of post production right now, so it’ll be Christmas of ‘25,” said the filmmaker, who currently resides in the country because he’s carrying out post-production work at Weta Digital.

While water was the central element of the second chapter, the third movie will explore fire, as Cameron himself announced when he attended the Critics Choice Awards: “Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept. That’s probably saying too much as we speak,” he told Deadline.

The filming of the sequels took place at the same time as the recording of ‘The Way of Water’ to avoid the ‘Stranger Things’ effect. That is to say, to avoid the younger actors growing up and becoming adults between filming periods.

‘Alien: Romulus’ and the return of James Cameron’s ‘Aliens’ team

Many decades after the premiere of ‘Aliens’, Uruguayan director Fede Álvarez is preparing to release a new film set in the same universe created by Ridley Scott. Actress Cailee Spaeny has not only revealed that the film will be set between the first and second films, but also has indicated that the xenomorphs have been designed by the original team that worked with Cameron on ‘Aliens’.
