‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ drops first trailer; James Cameron’s saga turns darker and deadlier

The third installment premieres December 19, 2025, and introduces the Ash People, a fierce Na’vi tribe that threatens Pandora from within.

Update:

James Cameron is back with the third chapter of his sci-fi epic: 'Avatar: Fire and Ash. The film picks up after the events of 'Avatar: The Way of Water, and the newly released trailer teases a more visceral, tragic tone. The Ash People, a volcanic-dwelling Na’vi tribe led by Varang (played by Oona Chaplin), emerge as the central threat, marking the first time the Na’vi face war from within.

What’s new in the trailer?

  • Jake and Neytiri’s family mourns the loss of Neteyam
  • The Ash People reject Eywa and embrace fire as their guiding force
  • Colonel Quaritch returns, now marked with red ash tattoos, hinting at an alliance with Varang
  • The trailer ends with the chilling line: “Your goddess holds no power here”

The visuals showcase volcanic landscapes, lava-lit battles, and tribal warfare, pushing the franchise into darker territory. Cameron’s signature 3D and immersive world-building are back, with formats including IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX confirmed for release.

Cast and release details

The film stars:

  • Sam Worthington as Jake Sully
  • Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri
  • Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Trinity Bliss
  • New additions: Oona Chaplin, Michelle Yeoh, and David Thewlis

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ hits U.S. theaters on December 19, 2025, with weekly IMAX screenings planned through the holidays.

Cameron has confirmed five total Avatar films, with 'Avatar 4′ slated for December 21, 2029, and 'Avatar 5′ for December 19, 2031. If Fire and Ash crosses the $1 billion mark, Cameron could surpass $10.8 billion in lifetime box office revenue, challenging Steven Spielberg as the highest-grossing director of all time.
