‘Avengers: Doomsday’ makes its debut at CinemaCon with its first trailer, though we’ll have to wait in this multiverse
Doctor Doom rises as heroes from across the MCU—and beyond—collide for the first time.
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have been back together since 2019, and they gathered at the Disney panel at CinemaCon. Following four short teasers released earlier this year, today finally saw the debut of what will be the first trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
What does the first trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ show?
As reported by media outlets present at the screening, the trailer opens with a clear statement of intent: Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, cloaked in green and hidden behind a metal mask, prepares to unleash a multiversal invasion. Trouble spreads quickly, beginning with Professor Xavier witnessing a blinding flash outside the X-Mansion. From there, the footage escalates into a rapid succession of crossovers and confrontations. Gambit clashes with Shang-Chi, Mystique impersonates Yelena Belova—leading to a surreal Florence Pugh-versus-Florence Pugh fight—and Doom proves his overwhelming power by stopping Thor’s hammer Mjolnir with his bare hand.
The emotional centerpiece of the trailer is the unexpected return of Steve Rogers. Chris Evans reunites with Thor, stunning the Asgardian given that Captain America seemingly retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame. While his return remains unexplained, Rogers once again demonstrates his worthiness by wielding Mjolnir, echoing one of the MCU’s most iconic moments.
Much like Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Doomsday brings together multiple corners of the Marvel universe. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes collide with the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts, following the Fantastic Four’s MCU arrival teased in the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts. The trailer also revisits unresolved tensions, teasing a renewed conflict between Wakanda and Talokan after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
