Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco has canceled multiple ‘One Piece’ and ‘Naruto’ games that hadn’t yet been revealed

After some internal adjustments, Bandai Namco has chosen to shelve the development of a variety of games, including one in association with Nintendo.

Bad news keep popping up in the video game industry, with this latest one coming from Japan. According to media such as Bloomberg and VGC, Bandai Namco has canceled or put on hold a multitude of projects that had not yet been revealed, which has affected 200 people within their teams.

What games has Bandai Namco canceled?

Among the canceled games were several projects from such popular manga and anime sagas as ‘One Piece’ and ‘Naruto’. Despite their strength in their respective media, it seems that the publisher wants to rethink how to use these licenses to create attractive works. Another of the canceled projects was an order from Nintendo; It is not the first time that Bandai has worked on some exclusive titles from its catalog.

“Our decisions to discontinue games are based on comprehensive assessments of the situation”, explains a spokesperson of the publisher to Bloomberg. “Some employees may need to wait a certain amount of time before they are assigned their next project, but we do move forward with assignments as new projects emerge.”

The uncertain future of the affected employees appears in contrast to Bandai Namco’s success with its latest work. Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero managed to place more than 3 million copies on the market in its first 24 hours. A milestone that makes it the fastest-selling Dragon Ball title in history. It seems that these benefits are not enough to maintain the current internal structure, which is entering a future that at the moment has few certainties.
