Barbie and Oppenheimer, two of the biggest movie releases of the summer that have made a mark in movie theaters all over the world. Their simultaneous premiere generated the meme known as Barbenheimer, since rarely do two films so opposite end up generating so much in the same period of time. The two movies have grossed over $2 billion worldwide, an incredible figure that places the works of Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan at the top of the year.

Inside Barbenheimer, Barbie has so far raised a total of $1,282 million worlwide; Oppenheimer is not that far behind, having garnered a revenue of $718 million dollars approaching the incredible figure of 800 million ever faster.

Barbie and Oppenheimer, a historic box office revenue story

It’s been a month to remember, one that has revived cinemas around the world after a drift in recent years in which it seemed that theaters were doomed to failure when streaming platforms gained all the weight in the world and studios chose to release their titles on them instead. Barbie and Oppenheimer have been a kind of salvation for traditional cinema this summer, just like those of decades ago, showing many producers that betting on movie theaters is still a great option, if not the best.

Barbie has led for a month with an iron fist, only being displaced from the top spot in the fifth week by Blue Beetle, the newest DC movie. For its part, Oppenheimer has made history by being the highest-grossing film of all time in the United States that has never reached the top spot at the box office. Barbenheimer has made history in the world of cinema and still has a long way to go with its future release on streaming platforms.
