Battlefield 6: Beta reveals that many players ran the game on minimum specs

Battlefield Studios confirms a “substantial number” of players on the open beta were running the game on or below minimum hardware specifications.

Update:

The first beta of Battlefield 6 was a huge success, with a massive number of players getting a sneak peek at what’s new in the franchise. However, defying the ideal of what one expects when playing, many of these PC players played below the minimum specifications.

This information was revealed in an interview conducted by Eurogamer with technical director Christian Buhl. Although he did not disclose an exact figure, he did mention that a sizable portion of the “millions of players” who participated in this sale did so with lower-end hardware, a parameter that is important for them to include. “Min spec is certainly one of our most important specs [...],” commented Buhl. “It’s super important from both a commercial and business perspective—we want as many people as possible playing the game.”

We built maps, and had to go to our artists and tech artists to adjust these maps so they were more performant. We’ve put in a lot of effort across the board to make sure these performance targets were set, and whether you’re on min spec or ultra spec you’re going to get the experience we’re targeting.”

On the other hand, Buhl also commented that a “meaningful percentage” of players also ran the game below the minimum specs.

The eternal debate about gaming on PC

While it has always been true that the ultimate gaming experience is on PC, buying new parts is not something that fits every budget these days. Global events over the last five years have made gaming on PC with the latest components more complicated. From the COVID pandemic, which caused processor prices to rise due to a shortage in the production line, along with the increase in video cards for mining cryptocurrencies, to more recent situations such as tariffs in the United States, these are some of the factors that have made a gaming PC a greater luxury than it was before.
