Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog on the big screen, has revealed his favorite game of all time
What does SEGA’s Blue Blur think is the greatest game of all time? Hint: it’s actually the greatest game of all time.
One of the most notable films of this final stretch of 2024 is ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3′, a franchise that continues to grow on the big screen and has managed to captivate all types of audiences. A very well-established trilogy that aims to go even further in the future, having the actor Ben Schwartz as one of the most important names in the film. Who exactly does he play? He’s in charge of giving life to Sonic with his voice.
During an interview, Schwartz invited IGN to ask him a question about video games, and thanks to it he ended up talking about his favorite video game. “When you’re 10 or 11 years old, Shadow is the coolest thing in the world. What was the coolest thing in the world when you were that age?”, a question to which Ben answers with curiosity and demonstrating his taste for video games: “Oh my God, probably the Frog character in Chrono Trigger, who got the big broadsword? That was one of the coolest things of all time. I think that videogame is probably my favorite video game of all time. It’s an extraordinary game with an extraordinary soundtrack and story,” recalled Schwartz. “Each character was unique. I feel like sometimes when I’m playing Final Fantasy there will be some characters that you’re like ‘I guess I’ll level this person up.’ But in Chrono Trigger, every character you were emotionally invested in.”
Schwartz and a game that is video game legend
It is not Sonic, but it is a title that demonstrates the actor’s great taste, a timeless gem that is considered by many to be the best JRPG of all time and one of the most important games in history. Akira Toriyama, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda... A constellation of the brightest stars of Japanese video games who, together with master Toriyama, who was at that time the most popular mangaka on the planet, came together to make one of the most epic and unmatched adventures in the history of the medium. A game that will never go out of style.
