Pre-orders for the Blu-ray re-release of the classic dark fantasy anime series, Berserk, are already here, with a very close release date of March 26. We’re talking about the original 1997 animated adaptation of Kentaro Miura’s Berserk, which adapts some of the most iconic story arcs of the long-running manga.
For those of you who don’t know about Berserk, the story centers around a lone warrior called Guts who forges a partnership and friendship with Griffith, the leader of the “Band of the Hawk” mercenary group. Together they become world renowned, but as happens often in dark fantasy, things take a turn for the horrible and terrifying when betrayals happen, evil deities are summoned, and horrific monsters corrupt the hearts of men. It is an amazing story that has stood the test of time, although it is quite brutal, and handles some very adult topics.

Is Berserk an incomplete story?
Sadly, the story was left without an ending after the author, Kentaro Miura, passed away back in 2022. While many were worried about what would happen with the story, which had been building towards a resolution as slowly as new chapters of the manga were published for over two decades, some time later it was announced by publisher Young Animal that they would continue to work on the manga.
As such, Berserk has recently resumed its publication under the work of Miura’s close friend, Kouji Mori. Before his passing, both had talked about the possibility of such a change happening. However, Miura did not leave drafts of what to expect, so Mori will work solely on the talks he had with the original author to reach a “faithful” conclusion.
