Blizzard announces Overwatch Rush, a new spin-off experience for mobile devices
The new standalone project offers gameplay in development and promises to expand the franchise without affecting the main game.
Despite the major update Overwatch received earlier this month, Blizzard still had one more announcement up its sleeve. This week, the company officially unveiled the franchise’s first spin-off, bringing the fight for the future to a new perspective and platform with the announcement of Overwatch Rush.
The title promises to adapt the Overwatch universe experience to mobile devices through a top-down view and battles that, according to what has been shown, are structured in 4 vs. 4 teams. More than just a trailer, the project was revealed through a preview with gameplay in development, offering a first look at its combat systems, game pace, and preliminary interface. Overwatch Rush is being developed by a team completely independent from Team 4—the group responsible for the main game—suggesting a parallel expansion strategy that does not affect the roadmap of the base title.
“Overwatch Rush is being developed by a dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4, all of whom have deep mobile experience”, Blizzard writes in their blog. “While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development.”
A new era for Overwatch
While we wait for Overwatch Rush, the core experience underwent a reboot earlier this month. Blizzard held Overwatch Spotlight, where it revealed the changes coming in 2026 as part of the tenth anniversary celebration. During the presentation, it was confirmed that 10 new heroes will be added throughout the year, with five debuting at the start of the new season.
