Blizzard has confirmed that there will be no BlizzCon event in 2024
Bad news for fans of Blizzard: the company has just announced that there won’t be a fan convention this year, opting to skip the event entirely this year.
There will be no BlizzCon in 2024, as Blizzard Entertainment has announced they’ve chosen to skip the convention this year “after careful consideration”.
The decision was announced by the company today, Wednesday, April 25, 2024, through both its Twitter/X account and the company’s official blog. “After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024,” says the announcement. “This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years.”
This wouldn’t be the first time the event has been absent in its entirety, as there was a three year hiatus from 2020-2022. BlizzCon returned to its in-person format on November 2023, once again taking over the Anaheim Convention Center in California, where the event has been traditionally held. As always, the studio makes use of the stage to give updates and announcements on their various titles, including World of Warcraft, Overwatch 2, the Diablo series, and more.
With no event happening this year, it seems like they plan on making their announcements through other venues. “Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing more details about our launches coming later this year, including World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. To celebrate these upcoming releases and to bring our communities together in new and special ways, we will soon share some exciting plans for other industry trade shows and conventions like Gamescom.”
Aside from Gamescom, Blizzard is also set to celebrate the Overwatch Champions Series through Dreamhack Dallas and Dreamhack Stockholm. They also have the release of their upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, The War Within, planned for this year.
