BlizzCon 2023 will happen as an in-person event later this year

After almost 4 years of not happening, Blizzard has just announced that BlizzCon is coming back this year. But is it the right time?

Update:
BlizzCon 2023 will happen as an in-person event later this year

Blizzard has just announced that their massive convention for fans, BlizzCon, is once again happening as an in-person event in the Anaheim Convention Center this year, on November 3-4. It’s been four years since the last event happened, back in 2019, and many things have changed in the gaming landscape since then, so what kind of surprises could the company have?

“Our players are at the heart of what makes BlizzCon great–a place where games are the common ground for connection and friendship,” states Blizzard in their official announcement. “Whether you’re coming to hang out with friends you only ever get to see online, celebrating epic moments in the games we love, exploring what’s on offer in the convention center halls, or eager to learn what’s next for our universes, BlizzCon is being created for you. It’s the community that has always made this event so special, and we can’t wait to see you all again.”

Promising more details about what to expect during the convention, as well as pricing and information about tickets, cosplay, competition details, and more, we’ll have to wait to figure out what BlizzCon 2023 will bring with it.

Not a great time for Blizzard fans

Unfortunately, the news comes at a strange time. Just yesterday the leadership at the development team of Overwatch 2 revealed the cancelation of the game’s Hero Mode, which was to be a longform co-op mode for the game which was announced back in BlizzCon 2019. At the time it was promoted as the central point of the sequel, with promises of both versions of Overwatch working in tandem as one ecosystem.

Of course, as the years advanced their plans and priorities changed, and now they’ve admitted that they’re not capable of bringing that original vision to fruition. However, PvE will still be present, only in a much smaller and sporadic form.

With Diablo IV just around the corner, are you intrigued by what Blizzard could show during their show?
