Blue Beetle is being praised as DC’s best “post-Nolan” movie

DC seems to have an unexpected success on their hands with Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero movie that is getting raving early reviews.

After The Flash turned out to be a bit of a stumble, nothing invited optimism with Blue Beetle, a movie starring a superhero notably less known than Barry Allen, but in reality it’s been an absolute surprise. The first great Latino character of the DCEU could burst into movie theaters with force, at least if we stick to the first reviews from those who have had the opportunity to see it, and which could hardly be better.

What does the Blue Beetle review say?

“Blue Beetle is fantastic fun,” said Clayton Davis of Variety. “Funny, surprisingly heartfelt with a star-making turn by Xolo Maridueña. The kid has IT. Director Angel Manuel Soto makes Latinos’ supposed “invisibility” into a full-on superpower. Truly inspiring. I also want the Abuela origin story now!”

Blue Beetle is my favorite post-Nolan DC film”, they say straight from POC Culture. “It’s an action packed, highly entertaining superhero story about family…& there’s nothing more important than family. The film is unique in that it lovingly & unabashedly shares the Reyes family’s Mexican culture.”

“Blue Beetle stands out from previous DC entries & its mostly due to the Latin flavor,” said Genesis O’Neill “It’s funny, emotional & the action scenes w BB are amazing! The cast is beautiful, but Maridueña & López SHINE. Can’t wait to see more!”

“Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it,” reads the official synopsis of the film. “As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle.”

Blue Beetle opens in theaters this coming Friday, August 18.
