Brandon Sanderson explains which of his books should be adapted into a video game similar to InFamous

Back in 2022, Brandon Sanderson revealed in detail what he thought would be the perfect book from his Cosmere universe to be adapted to video games.

Brandon Sanderson, the extremely prolific author behind the popular Cosmere series of books, has never shied away from sharing just how much he loves video games. He was quite forceful about George R.R. Martin working on Elden Ring, actively worked on Moonbreaker, a smaller strategy title, and has wanted to get more involved with the industry for a while now. But back in 2022, he got really specific about what his dream title would be.

During a Q&A session in New York Comic Con 2022 he had with a large audience, Sanderson was asked about which of his novels he thought would be the best option for making a video game out of it. He didn’t hesitate much, having mulled over the question for years already. “I would still probably pick Mistborn,” he said. “You know, the scope of Mistborn and the way that magic works would adapt very well to a video game.”

He continued: “Do you guys remember the old game, Infamous? Yeah, I thought Infamous was a pretty good model for how to do a Mistborn game because there were a lot of movement mechanics, which I love movement mechanics in videogames. I like when your character feels fluid and you feel like you’re going places, and Infamous just mastered that. It took place in one city, and I think a Mistborn story really should take place in one city, with lots of interesting architecture and things to visit. And I just really like kind of the powerset, how it played out in Infamous. It would be my model.”

Of course, this exact topic has been a topic of discussion for his fans online for a long time. Many agreed that Assassin’s Creed would be a good fit for a Mistborn adaptation, and curiously it seems like Sanderson has thought about it too. “I would agree with you in some regards, but it depends on which version of Assassin’s Creed you’re talking about because, you say Assassin’s Creed and it’s like seven different games at this point.”

Whether such a thing could happen remains a mystery, though, as the author himself admits that he’d love to work on a project like that, “but you just have to find 100 million dollars to make those things these days.”
