Call of Duty creators confirm fears about Battlefield 6 and know they need to distance themselves from Fortnite
Treyarch will not allow skins and weapon appearances to be transferred from Black Ops 6 to Black Ops 7.

In a Fortnite match, you can see Goku, Dr. Doom, John Wick, and Eminem fighting, for example, but this is almost the case in Call of Duty. Activision’s franchise has increasingly strayed from its war-themed roots to target a younger audience, something that the current hype surrounding Battlefield 6 has made clear was the wrong strategy.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been receiving a lot of collaborations in the form of skins that have little to do with the spirit of the series. In fact, DICE threw a poisoned dart at this type of content, stating that “I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj.” Activision knows that EA’s game comes with sky-high expectations, that its beta has had astronomical player numbers, and obviously, that they need to wake up if they don’t want to be overtaken.
“We know there’s been a lot of conversation recently about the identity of Call of Duty,” the studio said in a post. “Some of you have said we’ve drifted from what made Call of Duty unique in the first place: immersive, intense, visceral and in many ways grounded. That feedback hits home, and we take it seriously. We hear you.”

In fact, they confirm a decision that, while it may not please some users, is a clear statement of intent. “Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will no longer carry forward into Black Ops 7. Double XP tokens and GobbleGums will still carry forward, because we recognize your time and progression are important.”
“Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7,” they conclude. This can be interpreted as a definitive intention to move away from the somewhat comical tone that the series had taken on in recent times.

When is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 coming out?
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was one of the big stars of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, where we got to see it in even greater depth. It will be available on November 14 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
