Call of Duty will not have any exclusive content on Xbox
The head of Xbox has confirmed that they won’t gate future Call of Duty content behind their consoles, promising 100% parity between all platforms.
There has been much talk about the consequences of the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. One of the concerns was the possibility that Call of Duty would not come out on PlayStation consoles, but Microsoft has guaranteed that the franchise will continue to be multiplatform. There will also be no exclusive content for Xbox, as confirmed by Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division.
“Players on PlayStation, and in the future on Nintendo… I want you to feel 100% part of the community. I don’t want you to feel like there’s content you’re missing out, there’s skins you missing out, there’s timing you’re missing out on. That’s not the goal. The goal is 100% parity across all platforms as much as we can for launch and content,” stated Spencer. He also mentioned that there are devices that have differences in terms of resolution and framerate, with that being the only limitation. “We have no goal of somehow trying to use Call of Duty to get you to buy an Xbox console.”
The executive further explained that they won’t even link beta periods to certain platforms, not even Xbox. “I don’t think that helps the community, I don’t think that helps the game. So it’s the focus, if you’re a PlayStation player, a Nintendo player, a PC player, or an Xbox console player, I want you to feel 100% part of the Call of Duty nation.”
Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 be released on Xbox Game Pass at launch?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, developed by Infinity Ward, is the next title in the series. The story of the reimagining of the second installment will continue and will go on sale next November 10 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Despite the acquisition, Microsoft has pointed out that there will be no new Activision Blizzard games on Game Pass this year.
The controversial CEO of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick, will continue to be linked to the North American company throughout the year 2023. Next year leave office, once the transition is complete.
