Can I play Assassins Creed Shadows offline? Ubisoft says yes, but there’s a catch

Details about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows are finally starting to be revealed, among which was the fact that installation requires players to be online. But how much truth is there in that?

Update:
Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the first installment of the Ubisoft series to take place during Feudal Japan, was recently revealed with an incredible cinematic trailer to extremely pleased fans. But that hype almost died down when it was announced that an internet connection would be required to even install the game on consoles and PC. As such, fans wondered if the requirement extended to regular gameplay.

Soon after the news of the mandatory connection started to spread, Ubisoft spoke up about the issue by confirming that the entirety of the game could be played offline. However, it is true that everyone will need to be online at least during the installation. “Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not require a mandatory connection at all times,” states the message of the company on the game’s official Twitter/X account.

An online connection will be needed to install the game, but you will be able to play the entire journey offline, and explore Japan without any online connection. We are super excited to bring Assassin’s Creed to Feudal Japan on November 15 when the game releases, and cannot wait to show you more along the way!”

A long-awaited Assassin’s Creed game

After the return to a more traditional formula in Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Shadows returns to the RPG mechanics embraced by modern installments. A huge open world, full of locations and activities for reality. The game will star two different characters: Yasuke, a real historical figure, is a samurai of African origin, the only warrior of this type without Japanese ancestry. He served with honor Nobunaga Oda, the architect of the territorial union of Japan in the 16th century. The second protagonist is called Noae and is a kunoichi, a ninja who uses the art of stealth to achieve her goals.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via the Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store) on November 15, 2024.
