Canadian actor Donald Sutherland ('M*A*S*H*', 'The Hunger Games') dies at the age of 88

Kiefer Sutherland, the Canadian actor’s son, confirmed the sad news.

Canadian actor Donald Sunderland died this morning at the age of 88 at his home in Miami, Florida, according to his son, actor Kiefer Sutherland.

Through his social media, Kiefer announced that “With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

Donald Sutherland, a career for life

Donald Sunderland was borned on July 17, 1935 at (Saint John, New Brunswick, and appeared in nearly 200 films and television series. In a career spanning more than half a century, he appeared in such iconic television series as ‘M*A*S*H*’, as well as in all manner of films, including ‘Don’t Look Now’, ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’, ‘Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’, ‘JFK’, ‘Animal House’, ‘Ordinary People’ and many more. This allowed him to share credits with the great names of cinema, with actors as important as Federico Fellini or Bernardo Berolucci.  Undoubtedly, an entire generation will remember him for his role as President Snow in ‘The Hunger Games’ film franchise.

In the world of games, he did not have as many appearances, highlighting an improved version of the 1991 title KGB, will be remembered as his participation as Dr. Sid in the Square Enix movie, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Despite his extensive career, he was never nominated for an Academy Award, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
