Capcom hints at the possibility of a new Marvel vs. Capcom game

The fighting game dream of having new Marvel vs Capcom titles has never died, but now there is a new revitalized hope for fans.

Capcom never stops surprising and launching all kinds of titles on the market. This past morning in the middle of EVO 2024, the company announced the return of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, which with the appearance of some SNK characters in Street Fighter 6 makes us dream of other games in the franchise. Recently, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection brought some of the best and brightest fighting games in history to the forefront, and Dexerto was able to speak with the producer of this compilation, Shuhei Matsumoto, about the future of the fan favorite crossover in the history of fighting games.

Matsumoto highlighted during the interview that “The development team at Capcom has big dreams. Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Marvel vs Capcom game. Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Capcom-based SNK game. I don’t know. But, if that were to happen, that would take some time and effort in order create and release those kinds of games, but the short-term with what we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have the opportunity to play it, because it might not be out on modern or current platforms.”

Capcom’s new golden age

The Japanese company has been one of the most productive in the video game industry since its origins, usually being synonymous with quality, although raising many doubts during the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation. Those doubts ended up dissipating in recent years, with releases of all kinds and the courage to take risks and contribute new features to outstanding series such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, further increasing their success.

Capcom not only stands out with its best-known games, but also continues to dare to launch titles like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, which are currently not common among such reputable studios. Fresh air and the will to return to franchises from their past, and as Matsumoto points out during the interview, “there may be future opportunities to make bigger games.”
