Carl Weathers, ‘Rocky’, ‘Predator’, and ‘The Mandalorian’ star, has passed away at the age of 76
Beloved actor Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the Rocky series and had an incredibly active and successful career in Hollywood, has died at 76.
Actor Carl Weathers passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2024. The news was revealed by his family in a public statement (via Deadline), with confirmation that it was natural causes.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” says the statement by his family. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

Born January 14, 1948, Weathers had a long and successful acting career of over 50 years. He appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows, most recently even joining the Star Wars universe by playing Greef Karga, a new character that made his debut on Disney+’s The Mandalorian series. He also recently dabbled in voice acting through Disney, as he gave life to Combat Carl in Toy Story 4, and its TV special, Toy Story of Terror.
Most people might also recognize him as Apollo Creed, the heavyweight boxing champion of the Rocky series where he reprised his role in four of the film’s series, from 1976 to 1985. There he acted as a foil for Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa, and was constantly involved in the series’ plots.
