CES 2024: Samsung promises AI for All
During its CES presentation, the South Korean company revealed details of how its products will benefit from AI in 2024.
AI continues to be one of the central themes of CES 2024, and Samsung took it upon itself to demonstrate the capabilities it can have when you have a robust connected ecosystem to connect with. Here’s everything Samsung unveiled during its keynote.
AI is reshaping technology
One of the missions Samsung presented this afternoon was to “bring AI to millions of people around the world,” but it also recognized that these advances also represent a social responsibility, both to users and the environment. With this in mind, Samsung unveiled enhancements to its Knox security service, which extends to smart TVs and refrigerators that are designed to monitor each other for security threats to stay connected. At the same time, Knox Vault will be extended to other products such as the Galaxy A series and the NEO QLED 8K.
There was also an approach to using AI with people with disabilities, citing examples such as the use of on-the-fly audio captioning as text-to-speech on television, or the Relumimo mode, which provides image enhancement for people with impaired vision.
Regarding the environment, AI power is being used in home appliances to help save energy for a more substantial future with AI Power Mode. Outside of AI, there was also talk of environmental responsibility and how the company is using recycled materials, such as plastic aluminum fishing nets being used in smartphones, refrigerators and other appliances, as well as using programs such as Certified ReNewed and Galaxy Upcycling to help give devices new life.
AI for Devices
In terms of devices, Samsung announced its new transparent MicroLED TV, promising a premium visual display technology thanks to its new Neo QLED 8K with NQ8 AI Gen3 processor that allows AI upscaling, as well as a series of optimizations achievable with AI such as modulation of voice in movies or active optimization audio and gaming.
However, what stole the show was Ballie, its AI companion, which is a new version compared to the one presented a few years ago at CES. This device connects to appliances and can project on walls, communicate with the user, interact with other devices and even project video calls.
The new Bespoke 4-door flex refrigerator has AI vision inside, it recognizes what comes in and what goes out. It can alert you when food is about to expire and help reduce food waste. It can connect to Samsung Food, which suggests new recipes you can make with the food in your fridge.
The connectivity theme continues with the Galaxy Book 4, which will allow for more intelligent connectivity between devices. It will feature Intel Core processors and GeForce GTX for graphics, as well as an integration with Microsoft Copilot, with a range of AI applications in the future.
