CES 2025: Sony shows off technology, mobility, and the future of PlayStation beyond consoles

CES 2025 continues its course and one of the presentations that always attracts attention is that of Sony. Beyond technology, Sony is a company that is always looking to diversify its market, and this time entertainment became one of the pillars of innovation. Whether in terms of expanding its business with Crunchyroll, or taking advantage of the IPs they had with PlayStation. Without neglecting technological innovation, of course.

Afeela 1 reappears

Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of the division, was in charge of opening the presentation with a new look at the Afeela 1, a vehicle that was presented last year during CES. This smart car is a collaboration with Honda and is equipped with sensors and cameras that can scan our surroundings to avoid traffic accidents by understanding traffic situations. In addition, the vehicle will be equipped with an artificial intelligence called Personal Agent, which, in addition to giving notifications of the trip, will be able to converse with the occupants of the vehicle.

More details of what this vehicle will include were also shown. The price will start at $89,900, with a maximum price of $102,900. The vehicle can already be reserved with a minimum of $200, for now only in California.

Anime, series and movies coming from Sony

As the main part of the event, Atsuhiro Iwakami and Rahul Purini, presidents of Aniplex and Crunchyroll respectively, were responsible for showing the latest trailer for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle, which was shown late last year.

On the other hand, it was also announced that Solo Leveling: Arise from the Shadow will be released in 2025.

Finally, the first of the announcements related to PlayStation-born IPs is that the animated series Ghost of Tsushima Legends will be streamed via Crunchyroll, which will arrive sometime this year.

Moving on to other PlayStation Productions titles, division head Asad Qizilbach was responsible for announcing that new adaptations will be coming to other formats. It was announced that Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn will be getting movies from Columbia Pictures. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the Until Dawn movie will be released in April this year.

New technology for cinema

Continuing the film technology announcements from last year, Jonny Slow, head of Pixomondo, a visual production and effects company, showed the Pixo Akira technology. This will help scan vehicles to set them in motion without moving them from their location, and synchronize cameras to get the best shots.

On the other hand, Thaisa Yamamura, Sony’s Business Development Leader, announced the launch of the new XYN Virtual Reality Division, which will offer hardware and software solutions for the creation of content in a mixed reality modality, for video games, metaverse and cinema.
