Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are set to return to ‘Jump Street’: a new installment in the franchise is already in development

Both actors are set to reprise their roles, along with the directors of the previous installments.

Update:

Comedy fans, you’re in for a treat: one of the funniest franchises of the past decade is set to return. Naturally, we’re talking about the one starring the two cops from Jump Street. ‘21 Jump Street’ was a massive box office hit in 2012, grossing $200 million worldwide on a budget of just over $40 million. As is often the case when a studio lands a big hit, Sony quickly greenlit a sequel. This one didn’t disappoint either and managed to surpass its predecessor, grossing $300 million at the box office. Now, after more than a decade with the project on the back burner, it seems that the third installment is closer than ever.

The news broke in an article in Variety. The article not only reports that the film is already in development, but also that talks have begun with the actors who starred in the two previous films. According to the American publication, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum would return to their roles as Schmidt and Jenko, respectively. However, Ice Cube would also return, reprising his role as the police chief.

The directors are back, but they aren’t directing

In addition to the return of the stars from the two previous films, Variety reports that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will also be returning. Both directed ‘21 Jump Street’ and ‘22 Jump Street,’ but their role here will be different, as they will serve as producers and hand over the directing duties to Rodney Rothman, who was a screenwriter on the 2014 film. Furthermore, the working title for this sequel is reportedly ‘24 Jump Street,’ which is a joke in itself. Its predecessors are titled ‘21 Jump Street’ and ‘22 Jump Street,’ so here a number would be omitted, as if something had happened in between, referencing the end credits of ‘22 Jump Street.’
