Charlie Cox shuts down Spider-Man: Brand New Day cameo rumors: “I’m not in Spider-Man”

The actor clarifies his filming schedule and reaffirms his focus on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Update:

Charlie Cox has denied rumors that he will reprise his role as Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor’s comments, made during an interview with Brandon Davis at New York Comic-Con, come amid persistent fan speculation fueled by his past cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the confirmed presence of other street-level heroes in the new film.

Cox addressed the swirling rumors directly, acknowledging the online buzz surrounding his current filming location. “I know that they all think I’m in Spider-Man because I’m filming something in London, which I’m not,” Cox insisted, before making a definitive statement: I’m not in Spider-Man.” This firm denial quickly drew comparisons online to Andrew Garfield’s infamous misdirections regarding his return in No Way Home, leading many fans to remain highly skeptical of Cox’s assertion.

Street-Level heroes gather, but Daredevil sits out

Cox was also pressed about Daredevil’s potential involvement in the larger Phase 6 movies, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), to which he replied, “No, I’m just concentrating on DD right now.” This focus highlights the actor’s current commitment to his own series, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which gave Comic-Con attendees a first look via an exclusive trailer.

The skepticism from fans is natural, especially since Jon Bernthal is confirmed to reprise his role as Frank Castle, the ruthless vigilante The Punisher, in Brand New Day. Bernthal’s return, coupled with Matt Murdock’s lawyer cameo in the previous Spider-Man film, suggested a natural team-up for the three New York-based street-level heroes.

The film will also feature the return of an unexpected Avenger: Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, whose involvement has been confirmed by set photos, and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink in a still undisclosed role. Sink’s set photos, have sparked speculation that she might be portraying Rachel Cole-Alves, a character from the comics who partners with the Punisher.
