Chris Evans’ return to the MCU may not be what fans are expecting

The highly awaited return of Chris Evans to the MCU could be more bittersweet than fans are expecting, as it could be in a different role other than Captain America.

The actor who played Captain America ever since his first film in 2011, Chris Evans, will have a special return to the franchise for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ after it was revealed that Anthony Mackie (Falcon) would be taking on the mantle in the universe. With the film premiering in 2026, the Marvel Cinematic Universe already warned that Robert Downey Jr. will be back as one of the villains of the film. Later, they also confirmed Chris Evans, which caused madness among Marvel fans. However, they’ve also warned that the return of the actor could be a poisoned gift since he will not play the real Captain America.

Who will Chris Evans play in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

The theory that is on the minds of the most die-hard fans of Marvel comics is that Chris Evans could be playing Beyonder, a powerful cosmic entity that could carry the face of Steve Rogers. In fact, this is what happened in an issue released in 1985, ‘Secret Wars II’, where Beyonder arrives on Earth and adopts the figure of the superhero. This is the safest thing, especially knowing that the next movie the Marvel Cinematic Universe has in mind is ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

However, there is another theory regarding Chris Evans’ role. The actor could be playing Hydra Cap, a strange and controversial character created in the wake of 2015′s ‘Secret Wars’. This is an evil version of Captain America who, as his name suggests, works for Hydra. He is a controversial character since the fans did not like him at all, although it wouldn’t be surprising if he appeared in the movie so that the Russo Brothers could make fun of them.

Be that as it may, Chris Evans’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels more like a bait and switch than an epic return to the franchise.
