Coal in Palworld: how to get it, what it’s used for, and where to find it
Learn where and how you can get Coal easily in Palworld, as well as what you’ll need to even get there.
Palworld has become the first viral game of 2024, achieving stratospheric numbers of simultaneous players in Steam. In fact, during this weekend, its first on the market, it has managed the milestone of joining only five other games in having reached one million players who are enjoying the title simultaneously, surpassing at its peak a giant like Cyberpunk 2077.
As usual in the survival genre, crafting is at the heart of the entire experience, as while the Pals you capture can help you out with constructing, crafting, and even combat, you’ll still need to build a base and craft your own weapons and armor. One of the most precious resources you’ll gather throughout your adventure is Coal, but it’s not exactly obvious where you can find it. Here are a couple of tips for gathering Coal, what it’ll be useful for, and where to find it.
Where is Coal found in Palworld?
Being one of the most basic, yet rare resources, Coal can actually spawn rarely around the northern part of the map. However, you’ll find it regularly as you explore the desert biome, with lumps of coal spawning in groups of four or five nodes you can mine, always visible and close from each other. The coal sticks out of the ground very obviously, as its nodes are a dark color that is noticeable even from far away against the reddish sand of the desert.
The area (and the road to it) has enemies that go higher than level 20, so unless you have a flying mount to avoid them or are high level enough, you’ll be risking yourself if you don’t go well prepared enough. Take a look at the game’s interactive map if you’re lost about where to go.
How do you mine Coal in Palworld?
Coal isn’t as easy to get as in other survival games, even when there are no tool tier prerequisites to mine the nodes. However, it is recommended to get at the very least a metal pickaxe, as a primitive stone pickaxe will degrade quickly with a single node, very probably breaking and leaving you without a way to gather the resource.
Other than that, you’ll want to prepare mostly for the trip north with lots of storage space so you don’t have to do several trips between your base and the Coal.
What is Coal useful for in Palworld?
Coal is a very important resource, as its primary use is as part of the crafting recipe of Refined Ingots. You need to reach Technology Level 34 to even be able to craft these items, as you’ll need to have an Improved Furnace in your base.
Refined Ingots are made using one Coal and one Ore of specific kinds, and they are the main ingredients in the crafting of actual guns like Assault Rifles, Shotguns, and most importantly, the Rocket Launcher.
