Comparison of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PS4 and PS5 show non-existent differences

The newly announced remaster of The Last of Us: Part 2 for PS5 is identical to the PS4 original (released only 3 years ago) in its first comparisons.

The Last of Us Parte 2 Remastered

Just like that episode of The Office where Pam gives Creed two identical photos and tells him to look for the differences to keep him entertained. The first comparison between the original The Last of Us Part 2 and its upcoming remaster for PS5 is the kind you have to see with a magnifying glass and bionic eyes. The kind that leaves you incredulous and looping over and over again, looking for some detail that clarifies that this is no joke.

The folks over at GameXplain have come up with a first version comparison that makes this remaster seem even more unnecessary than the remake of the first The Last of Us already felt. Aside from the resolution improvements and load times, the rest of the game feels too similar and reminds us that The Last of Us Part 2 was released just three years ago.

The new content of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered

Although visually we should not expect much (at least if it ends up like the comparison above these lines), The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will bring new content when it launches on PS5 on January 19, 2024. They will be the following:

  • A roguelike mode where you must survive hordes of enemies in random scenarios and encounters that change from game to game. There will be final bosses, unlockable and unpublished playable characters...
  • The so-called Lost Levels, three new levels that were discarded in the original and can be played here in a first development version.
  • Speedrun mode and Guitar Free Play mode to play the guitar and other new instruments with total freedom.
  • Comments from the developers can be activated throughout the game.
  • New skins and weapons for Ellie and Abby.

The remaster will be released at the regular game price for those who don’t own the original, and for those who do, Sony will give them the option to upgrade to the PS5 for just $10. We wonder if its release means that Naughty Dog has finally scrapped multiplayer for The Last of Us 2. Was it going to be released alongside this revision and now that it’s been canceled, is that why it’s being released alone?
