Controversial 'Absolute Batman' logo reveals its surprising purpose
The series will introduce us to a version of Bruce Wayne that is not the Gotham tycoon.
A few weeks ago we were able to see some alternative covers of the series that DC Comics will be launching after the ‘All In’ event, which will be the equivalent of Marvel’s Ultimate collections: ‘Absolute Superman’, ‘Absolute Wonder Woman’, and ‘Absolute Batman’, with totally groundbreaking approaches to the characters of the DC Trinity. Of course, the most surprising thing about the new designs for Superman and Wonder Woman was Batman’s peculiar logo, which is radically different from what we are used to, even though the rest of the costume is not much different from what we are used to.
The controversial new logo of ‘Absolute Batman’ has a deadly explanation
Today, in a first look at the vignettes from the first issue of ‘Absolute Batman’, we can find out why the logo of this alternative version of the Dark Knight has such a square design. When removed from his costume, it becomes a two-handed weapon in the form of an axe.
“We drew upon bats for inspiration. When you read the story, I think we’re gonna reinforce what I just said”, said series artist Nick Dragotta. “The idea was this wouldn’t be a new Batman and look, but function. And what’s interesting is that everyone is now talking about how different he looks. It really informed giving him that new feel. It all goes back to story and who this Bruce Wayne is and every aspect of his costume. It’s not just a utility belt anymore. It’s a utility cowl or a utility suit cape. Everything’s usable.”
And as we see above these lines, those uses will be shown in a completely explicit way. “In this iteration, fans will meet a version of the Dark Knight who has no money, no mansion, and no butler,” reads the series’ official synopsis. The series will launch in the U.S. on October 9, when the first issue hits U.S. comic book stores.
