'Cowboy Bebop' and Magic: The Gathering, a collaboration between two classics that leaves behind cards and a spectacular opening

A surprising union between two classics of popular culture that are still very much alive.

Magic: The Gathering, the popular trading card game, has begun a special collaboration with ‘Cowboy Bebop’, the historical anime from Sunrise Studios. To celebrate this union, they have released a version of the mythical opening of the anime that looks amazing with details from the card game and ‘Outlaws of Thunder Junction,’ its new expansion released this April.

As part of this collaboration, a Cowboy Bebop promotional card can be won starting August 2 by playing in the weekly Standard Showdown events held at local WPN stores. There are a total of five special promotional cards, all in traditional foil (glossy finish). Each of these cards will be handed out at Standard Showdown events. “In celebration of Outlaws of Thunder Junction, our Japanese team has announced a special collaboration with the popular Japanese anime series ‘Cowboy Bebop,’” said Magic: The Gathering in its official release.

A Japanese animation classic that is still very much alive today

In 1998, the mythical animation studio Sunrise released “Cowboy Bebop”, a work that would soon stand out for its story, the charisma of its characters, its atmosphere, its style and an elegant and masterful soundtrack that is one of the best in the history of anime. More than 25 years have passed since its premiere, and the adventures of Spike and the rest of his companions are still very much alive. A quarter of a century has passed since its premiere, an excellent reason to see great collaborations around this anime.

The synopsis for Cowboy Bebop reads as follows: “The action takes place in the year 2071, where the bounty hunters are back with their full space arsenal. The characters Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed and Ein travel in a ship called Bebop in search of space criminals”.
