Crimson Desert could reach Nintendo Switch 2 as Pearl Abyss starts feasibility research
Performance limits and visual trade-offs are key concerns as the studio studies a potential Switch 2 version.

Just one week after the global launch of Crimson Desert, developer Pearl Abyss is already evaluating possible next steps for the title. During a recent shareholders’ meeting, CEO Heo Jin-young confirmed that the studio has begun early research and development to assess the feasibility of a potential port for Nintendo’s next console generation. At this stage, the work is exploratory rather than a confirmed production effort.
Adapting Crimson Desert to a handheld-focused platform presents clear technical challenges. The game is demanding even on current-generation consoles, with performance analyses showing that maintaining stable frame rates can be difficult in densely populated environments. Heo acknowledged this reality, noting that while the Switch 2 hardware represents an improvement over its predecessor, it still falls short of the PlayStation 5 in terms of raw performance.
“Compared to other consoles, the Switch [2] still has lower specifications, so there are things we would have to give up,” Heo stated (thanks Nintendo Everything). Any potential version would likely require adjustments such as reduced resolution, simplified visual effects, or changes to environmental density. That said, the decision to initiate internal R&D suggests the studio is at least interested in determining whether a version could be produced without undermining the core experience.

Early performance and post-launch support
From a commercial standpoint, Crimson Desert has started strongly. Pearl Abyss reported that the game surpassed three million copies sold within its first five days. Alongside these results, the studio has begun addressing early player feedback. A recent update (version 1.00.03) introduced several quality-of-life improvements, including Private Storage at the Howling Hill Camp and additional keyboard shortcuts aimed at improving menu navigation for PC users.

For now, a potential Switch 2 version remains speculative. However, the combination of strong early sales and ongoing technical evaluation indicates that Pearl Abyss is actively considering how far the game can extend beyond its initial platforms.
