Cyberpunk 2 won’t arrive anytime soon: CD Projekt RED estimates its development timeline
The game has just entered pre-production, meaning it’s still in its early stages.

CD Projekt RED is juggling multiple projects, including The Witcher 4 and a remake of the first Witcher game. But what about Cyberpunk 2? Fans shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
Recently, the studio confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 has moved from the conceptual phase into pre-production. While this is a major step forward, it’s only the beginning, developers are now laying the groundwork before full production begins.
A long road ahead: 4 to 5 years of development
CD Projekt RED’s co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, has hinted that none of their major projects will be released soon.
“Our journey from pre-production to launch takes four to five years on average,” Nowakowski stated, referencing The Witcher 4.
Since Cyberpunk 2 has just entered pre-production, this suggests a potential release window of 2029 or later.
However, Nowakowski also emphasized that each project is unique, meaning timelines can shift depending on development challenges.
Upcoming CD Projekt RED releases
- Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.
- The Witcher 4 is expected no earlier than 2027.
With Cyberpunk 2 still in its early stages, fans will have to wait several years before stepping into the next chapter of the Cyberpunk universe.
