Daeron Targaryen, Alicent and Viserys’ unknown son in ‘House of the Dragon’

The Dance of Dragons has a new figure in the conflict, with an unexpected arrival of more Targaryen blood.

la casa del dragon

The second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ has been going for a few weeks already, bringing with it a multitude of details and references that can be overwhelming for all those who do not know in depth the works of George R.R. Martin. The sheer number of characters is complex in a family environment as complicated as the one presented by the confrontation between the Blacks and the Greens, and that is why it is easy for us to overlook notable figures such as Daeron Targaryen, the fourth son arising from the union between king Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, and which is mentioned by his grandfather, Otto Hightower, in the second episode of season 2.

Aegon II, Aemond, and Helaena Targaryen are three of the four children of the marriage between Viserys and Alicent, well known to viewers, but there is one more, the smallest of all: Daeron Targaryen. Born in the year 114 after the Conquest, he is seven years older than Aegon II, the eldest of his brothers; while with Helaena he gets five and Aemond four. He is the same age as Jacaerys Velaryon, his half-brother as he is the son of Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The story of Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of Viserys and Alicent

Daeron Targaryen is described in the books as intelligent, courteous, and handsome. He was a person with a peaceful character and who was the most popular among his brothers, being very different from them having grown up in a different environment. At the age of twelve, he was sent to Oldtown, where he was the cupbearer and squire of Lord Hightower, thus getting used to following orders rather than giving them. What role will he have in ‘House of the Dragon’? A character who’s set to leave no one indifferent and who is part of the Greens in a conflict like the Dance of the Dragons.

The world’s most staunch followers of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ wondered if Daeron Targaryen would appear in ‘House of the Dragon’, and the second season has been controversial for readers with details such as leaving Daeron’s children at two, Aegon II and Helaena, while in the book he has three. Finally, the youngest of the brothers will appear in the series and he will also bring Tessarion, his dragon.
