Star Wars

Daisy Ridley returns to Star Wars as Rey to rebuild the Jedi Order in a new Movie

Star Wars gets Daisy Ridley back, as a new movie taking place after the sequel trilogy has been revealed. Here is everything we know so far.

Update:
Rey Skywalker, Star Wars

The rumors have been running strong for a good while now, but confirmation has finally arrived by way of Star Wars Celebration in London: Daisy Ridley will return to her role as Rey Skywalker in a new Star Wars movie set after the events of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. According to Lucasfilm themselves, the film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

After the (apparently definitive) fall of Emperor Palpatine, Rey will fulfill her destiny and become the teacher of a new generation of Jedi. Lucasfilm hasn’t revealed a release date or any additional details, but it seems like Damon Lindelof started the script’s first draft before he left the project.

Rey Skywalker is one of the main characters in the sequel trilogy. The young scrapper’s life changes drastically when she rescues a Resistance droid, which leads her to face off against the First Order, the heirs of the Galactic Empire.

What other new projects have been announced in Star Wars Celebration?

It’s been a hectic morning in London, with two other movies set in the galaxy far far away having been revealed: James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) will take the lead in a project set before the Old Republic, which will narrate the origin of the Jedi. On the other hand, Dave Filoni will unite every plotline of the so-called Mandoverse (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka) in a movie.

The future of the series has also been cleared up. Ahsoka, which just got a new official trailer, will debut in August 2023, while Skeleton Crew showed off new images, its cast, and a teaser behind closed doors. Andor’s second season is planned to release in August 2024, which is the same date showrunner Tony Gilroy had previously mentioned.

There are still two more episodes to go left in the third season of The Mandalorian. The next one comes on Wednesday, April 12; the season finale is to be released on April 19.
