Daniel Radcliffe asks fans not to compare HBO’s Harry Potter to the films: “let them get on with it”

The original star urges fans to let the new cast shine without constant comparisons.

Update:

With the new HBO adaptation of Harry Potter, one thing is inevitable: comparisons with the original films. It is understandable that many fans want to make comparisons. Still, Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who originally played “the boy who lived,” has made it clear that he prefers the new actors to focus on their adaptation without these comparisons.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Radcliffe spoke about this concern, not wanting him, as well as the other original actors, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, to be “weird spectral phantoms” in these children’s lives.

“When these kids got cast, there was a huge thing on the internet around the world, people being like ‘we’ve got to look after these kids.’ And I was like, if you mean that, one of the things you can do for me is not ask about us — me, Emma, Rupert — the whole time,” Radcliffe said. “I would like not to be weird spectral phantoms in these children’s lives and just to let them get on with it. Because it is going to be a new thing and it’s going to be a different thing, and they’re going to be — I mean, I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me and better than I was.

In search of a new and different adaptation

If there’s one thing fans should expect, it’s the changes that this series will undergo. Recently, there has been talk that the series will not constantly be from Harry Potter’s point of view and that we will have other perspectives on the story. Some of these will introduce us to characters before their debut in the books, as well as scenes that were only mentioned in the original work.
