After the premiere of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ in July 2024, all kinds of anecdotes and stories regarding its development process still continue to appear. In this case, an artist at Marvel Studios has shown concept art of a canceled humorous gag from the film that consisted of Deadpool traveling to the universe of the Marvel comics in order to be an Avenger, where he he ran into a group resembling the six original Avengers of the MCU.

Deadpool’s multiversal journeys

On August 22, Andy Park, director of visual development at Marvel Studios, shared a concept art of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ in which The Merc with a Mouth is shown alongside the six original MCU Avengers: Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America. The particularity of the artwork lies in the fact that it is an image that seems directly taken from the comics, showing that there was an intention at some point in the development of the film to add a scene or gag with these characters animated in this way.

“In my last post I was honoring my 1st boss (& creator of Deadpool) in @robliefeld,” said Park on his Instagram account. “This post I show you how I honored MANY comic book legends during preproduction on working on the DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE film before there was even a script. I pitched a fun idea where Deadpool would jump through multiverses and arrive at the MCU, Marvel COMICS Universe! And each character would exist in the art style of a legendary comic book artist. Each who have inspired me greatly!”

As the artist himself comments, what is also striking is the fact that each of the characters shown in the illustration is created following the particular style of a relevant figure of the Marvel publishing house during its many years of history. Although Park does not say which authors they are and encourages his followers to guess, Hulk seems to have the style of Sal Buscema, Iron Man in the style of Bob Layton, and Captain America “a la” Jack Kirby. This illustration has been rated very positively by fans, who regret that this peculiar scene could not make it into the final version of the feature film.

Last but not least, Andy Park states that this illustration will be included in the official book ‘The Art of Deadpool and Wolverine’, which will be released soon.
