Marvel Studios

Deadpool and Wolverine missed out on some incredible cameos, like Nic Cage and Ben Affleck

Ryan Reynolds managed to make wonders with the returning characters in Deadpool and Wolverine, but a few of them never materialized.

Ghost Rider Daredevil

Deadpool and Wolverine’ was full of great cameos and references throughout the footage, such as the return of Wesley Snipes, Channing Tatum, and Jennifer Garner as Blade, Gambit, and Elektra, respectively, but there were also some notable absences. Some of these were not, as stated Ryan Reynolds, because the production didn’t want them, but because the corresponding actors refused the offer, and this is the case of two that would have been real bombshells: Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider and Ben Affleck as Daredevil.

Both starred in some of the lowest-rated Marvel films of all those before the MCU. However, Reynolds and director Shawn Levy wanted to pay a nice tribute to all those productions that made superhero fans enjoy before the premiere of ‘Iron Man’ (2008), the film that officially started the Marvel Universe in cinema.

The two incredible cameos that we missed in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’

Reynolds loved them both, but they rejected the proposal. “They were on the initial lists, we had several versions of that sequence, but we were trying to make the film responsibly” explains Rodney Fuentebella, one of the artists of the film. “It’s the biggest budget of any Deadpool movie, but you’re also constrained, which I really think facilitates a symmetry in thinking between creativity and consciousness: if you have too much time or too much money, that usually kills creativity.”

“We talked to Nic Cage, we tried to bring him in, but it was a no. I would have loved”, he said about Nicolas Cage. “Fortunately we had a lot of yeses, mainly because Ryan called them directly. “I would ambush him over FaceTime.” And Cage’s “no” could perfectly have been due to his brief presence in ‘The Flash’ like Tim Burton’s Superman who never saw the light of day, having been an experience from which the actor does not exactly keep good memories.

‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ arrives on Disney+ on December 12.
