‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle’ clears the final hurdle before its streaming debut
A global phenomenon that has dominated movie theaters for nearly a year.
In an era when movies seem to hit streaming platforms just two or three weeks after their theatrical release, it’s hard to believe we’ve been waiting nearly a year to watch ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle’ again from the comfort of our living rooms. The film, which premiered in Japan on July 18, 2025, continues to keep us waiting and adds an air of legend to what has been the biggest hit in history when it comes to anime adaptations. Despite this, Crunchyroll won’t be able to delay it much longer. Tanjiro has cleared the final hurdle before making the leap to their catalog.
A month ago, on April 9, the theatrical run of ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle’ officially came to an end. The film ran for a whopping 266 days in Japanese theaters and grossed nearly $800 million at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing others such as ‘Your Name’ and ‘Spirited Away.’ That farewell to theaters was the first step, the first domino to fall. The second has been the end of awards season.
Although its run at the Oscars was unsuccessful (it lost to ‘KPop Demon Hunters’), at the year’s final awards ceremony, the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, the film took home seven trophies: Best Film, Best Soundtrack, and Best Voice Acting in Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, English, German, and Latin American Spanish. Although the competition was fierce (‘Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc,’ ‘Dandadan,’ and ‘Gachakuta,’ to name a few), it was ‘Demon Slayer’ that took home the most awards, thus bringing to a close an unprecedented run in which it has won the hearts of both critics and audiences.
When will the sequel to ‘Infinity Castle’ be released?
While the streaming release date remains unknown (though we don’t think it will be much longer—it could very well be the hit of the summer), the release date for the second ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle’ film is already set in stone. It will be released in 2027, next year. And we should still be grateful, considering that this type of production usually takes three and a half years to complete.
