Donkey Kong Bananza amiibo functions: outfits, explosive tiles, and terrain spheres

Every amiibo unlocks something, but DK fans get the best rewards.

Update:

Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Bananza supports every amiibo ever released, but the rewards vary depending on which figure you scan. Whether you’re using a classic Smash Bros. DK or the new Donkey Kong & Pauline duo, here’s what each type unlocks, and how to use them.

How to scan amiibo

There are two ways to activate amiibo rewards:

  1. Pause Menu Method
    1. Press ‘+’ to open the pause menu
    2. Select the “amiibo” icon
    3. Tap your amiibo on the right Joy-Con or Pro Controller center
  2. Collectone NPC Method
    1. Visit the Tropical Retreat area in the Resort Layer (SL 800)
    2. Speak to the Collectone near the Style Shop
    3. Scan the amiibo when prompted for exclusive unlocks

DK & Pauline amiibo: best reward in the game

Scanning the Donkey Kong & Pauline amiibo unlocks:

  • Pauline’s Diva Dress: A red outfit inspired by Super Mario Odyssey
  • Bonus effect: Doubles Music Disc drop rate after defeating enemies
  • Location requirement: Must be scanned at the Collectone in SL 800

Note: You can also unlock the Diva Dress by completing the game and post-story mission, but the amiibo grants it early.

Donkey Kong series amiibo: explosive KONG tiles

Scanning any DK-themed amiibo (including Diddy Kong, King K. Rool, and Power-Up Bands) spawns:

  • Four golden KONG tiles
  • Functions:
    • Explode on impact
    • Recharge Bananergy meter
    • Drop instant gold
    • Break barriers and damage enemies

These tiles are reusable tools for combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving.

All other amiibo: terrain spheres

Scanning any non-DK amiibo (e.g. Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing) spawns:

  • Material spheres made of ice, rock, crystal, or explosive terrain
  • Uses:
    • Solve environmental puzzles
    • Create platforms
    • Clear hazards like lava
    • Launch at enemies for damage

The material is randomized, so scanning multiple amiibo increases your chances of getting the sphere you need.

Unlike other Nintendo titles, Bananza allows unlimited amiibo scans per day. You can scan the same figure repeatedly or rotate through your collection for varied rewards.
