Dr. Disrespect weighs in on this new direction for Call of Duty

For Dr. Disrespect, the arrival of collaborative skins in games like Call of Duty is a change that is affecting the industry the way it used to be.

Call of Duty has gone through many changes in its 20 years of existence, many of which have set the standard for the industry, while in recent years it has ridden several trends to maintain its relevance. Whether it is the game-as-a-service system or battle passes, Activision’s shooter franchise has also followed the path of integrating skins of celebrities and characters far removed from the military world it represents to generate collaborations or crossovers with other universes.

Whether it be soccer players like Messi, musicians like Snoop Dogg or Nicki Minaj, or even characters from TV shows like The Boys, the series’ multiplayer has been gradually filled with this type of content, and personalities like Dr. Disrespect are not so happy about it.

During a recent stream, the YouTuber commented about a recently announced Spawn skin, and with that, he began a rant about how gaming has changed.

“How much do you think it cost them to get Spawn in there? Like a million or something?,” Dr. Disrespect said. “And then they put the production into that video. They’re making high-level production video pieces on new skins in the game! The state of this industry, I don’t know where we’re at, man. It’s not what I grew up with. It was literally about playing the games and the fun aspect of interacting with games, but now people are getting hyped off high-production video pieces. We need to bring the culture of this industry back.”

It seems that Dr. Disrespect has already forgotten that about a month ago he commented that he would love to be in Mortal Kombat and that he had already thought about his Fatality. Maybe his opinion would change if Activision approached him to integrate him as a skin in the game.

Call of Duty and its future

On the other hand, Call of Duty continues to look to the future, presenting this morning during its CoD NEXT what will be the new elements of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, with the first details of its multiplayer and how it will be integrated with Warzone 2.0. The upcoming title will arrive on November 10, 2023, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
