‘Dragon Ball Daima’ production will continue after Toriyama’s passing, sets a broadcasting date

The prequel/spin-off of Dragon Ball Super that’ll see the characters turned into kids, ‘Dragon Ball Daima’, will still arrive in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

As many people were wondering what would happen to ‘Dragon Ball Super’ and ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ after the death of Akira Toriyama, the official account of the series has taken to social media to make an announcement about the productions’ future. According to them, there will be no delays and ' Dragon Ball Daima’ will arrive in Fall 2024 just as planned. It will change the way it will be broadcasted, but there will still be 20 episodes and they will be ready to go in October 2024, just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Dragon Ball’.

The only change will be that, although ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ was planned to be released directly through digital platforms, the tragic loss of Akira Toriyama has led Fuji TV to take over the rights, so the anime will be broadcast on Japanese television. There will be a new episode every Sunday, so the series will last until approximately February 2025.

Will ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ be released in the rest of the world?

While ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ is currently set to release this year in japan, via TV broadcasting, its worldwide release still hasn’t got an official announcement. However, Toei Animation Latin America’s Licensing Director, Daniel Castaneda, revealed in an interview with Produ that the series is going to release simultaneously around the world, with subtitling and dubbing processes already underway.

“Usually all the productions we have are first released in Japan and about six months later we release them internationally because we wait until we have 26 chapters to start dubbing and so on, and we can now release them in other territories. This is the first time we are going to launch a worldwide series at the same time. Production is already underway and I estimate that we will have it finished around May of next year.”

It’s expected that this new series will follow in the steps of ‘Dragon Ball Super’, and that it will be released through Crunchyroll via simulcast.
