Update:

The wait is finally over for fans of the world’s most iconic martial arts franchise. During the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the series, it was officially confirmed that the Dragon Ball Super anime is returning. The new project, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, will pick up exactly where the series left off.

Akio Iyoku, president of Capsule Corporation Tokyo and executive producer of the series, broke the news, noting that production is currently underway although did not provide a specific release date. Based on the early nature of the reveal, it appears the studio is taking its time to ensure the animation quality meets the high standards fans have come to expect from the franchise.

New Allies and a Terrifying Ancient Enemy

Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol adapts the story following the Universe Survival arc. The narrative follows Goku and Vegeta as they join forces with the Galactic Patrol—the elite peacekeepers of the universe—to hunt down a dangerous fugitive. This journey leads them to Planet-Eater Moro, an ancient sorcerer whose ability to drain the life force of entire worlds presents a threat unlike anything the Saiyans have faced before.

The return of the series provides a sense of continuity that has been missing since the anime ended in 2018. While the Dragon Ball Super manga continued under the pen of Toyotaro, the anime remained in limbo, especially following the passing of creator Akira Toriyama in 2024. The reveal of a new visual featuring Goku and Vegeta in their updated designs confirms that the flame of the series remains bright, ensuring that the next generation of fans will have new adventures to experience alongside lifelong followers.
